Any old housewife is more likely to call this a "dishcloth," and it reaches almost to the ceiling. This old housewife found it kind of terrifying, which is probably grist for the psychoanalytic mill. There could be a horror movie about a dishcloth like this, and there probably is...hmmm...maybe the original "Father Knows Best"?
If you live in NYC, you can go scare yourself by looking at this massive piece of Orly Genger's art at Larissa Goldston Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, 3rd floor. The last day is May 5, 2007. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm.
Ufda!
It reminded me hailyards from old sail ships...smell of galleys and woodworking too. And the color...much abused black.
ReplyDeleteBut good to clamor about with the mateys...and imagine someone knitting the pieces with her fingers.
Kat
aye...it was quite nautical at that. sort of wot i'd imagine my boat to look like after five days on the bay....
ReplyDeleteHmmm.... I can't think of anything scarier than a humungous black dishcloth reaching to the ceiling.... a housewife's nightmare. And why would a giant black dishcloth signify N Dakota? I guess I just don't get it....

ReplyDeleteThe black dishcloth was across the street in a nother gallery. There are dishcloths aplenty in ND, but nothing like that baby. You are so right....it was scary as heck.
