The Secret Garden.....
OK...yesterday was planting time on my porch. So I stuck in some flat-leafed parsley, rosemary, basil, and mint. And just by coincidence, my dogwood tree blossomed! Maybe it's because it was so hot, but the flowers popped out. They were greenish before and didn't look too much different from the leaves, but after one day of high heat, they've turned lovely creamy yellow. Welcome back!!

ReplyDeleteI can ID the parsley and Rosemary; but, as one who thought the sage bushes were some sort of basil for several years (thank goodness for smart daughters!), I'm definitely not an expert on herbs. They are all lovely, however. As is the dogwood - my mother's favorite tree. She loved driving through the Ozarks each spring to enjoy the dogwood blossoms and always had at least one dogwood tree in her back yard.

ReplyDeleteCC: We had a dogwood tree by our back door in Fargo, and my mother prized it! It didn't look like any of the dogwoods I see here--had red bark, for one thing. And the dogwood by my porch is very different from the two across the street: they bloom much earlier, and have white flowers. Mine are kind of ivory, but my dogwood is a native of New Zealand or Australia, forget which.

DeleteI planted stuff in pots yesterday, but mine were mostly pretty flowers. I'll go to the Richters Herbs (look it up, it's amazing) this week and get a few herbs, parsley, basil etc. Still have a bag of soil and some pots left.
