The Chelsea and Larry Show....

Let's leave our distraction du jour, Chelsea Manning, for a moment to live her brave life and read some more about the world financial situation.  I want to find out just WHY OH WHY our preznit is so big on Larry Summers.  Can you figure that one out?  Not me.  It's like we voted for one person and got someone else.  Someone very different.

There's a great post on Greg Palast's VICE that sheds some light on this.  One of my favorite blogs is Juan Cole's Informed Comment, and he leads off today's post by asking "Is the US Government the Managing Committee of the Pirate Banks?"

Pirate Banks?

Managing Committee??

Larry Summers, for pete's sake??

"It's like we voted for one person and got someone else."

Unfortunately, that's what we get when we vote in a rock star instead of someone who has been around for a while.

  4. I do not take responsibility for making a misstep with my vote. Knew that part of me was voting for the possibility that all of us who'd worked so hard, so many years for social justice finally would be led by someone representing us. Though disappointed in many of Obama's moves, I consider the work not finished.

And point out that his election unleashed all the racist, anti-democratic vermin that has been hiding in the cracks in America's infrastructure. Today spouse and I talking about where we were 50 years ago, how we've had to keep on keeping on in everyday lives for the dream.

  5. It's not that it's "our fault." It's more that we don't have much power. And I do think Obama was "sold" to us, always did and have no reason to change my mind on that score.
If we get the health care mess figured out, that will stand as Obama's great accomplishment. Untouched will be the military/industrial/security state that rules us today.

  6. We pick who we perceive as the best of a questionable bunch is how I see it. The alternatives seem not as acceptable, but that's our perception.

  7. "who" or "whom"....arguments for both.

  8. We don't have much power, and we don't have much knowledge. So much of the agenda is hidden from us that we cannot make an informed choice. I will continue to vote for the Democratic nominee as one who may be allowed to have a more progressive agenda, but I fear that in politics as in life he who pays the piper calls the tune".

  9. Ellen, I think you're right. We don't know about the hidden agendas. We can't even be sure about reports of hidden agendas. Are they just conspiracy theories? Do the conspiracy theorists have a hidden agenda? Or is there something to it?

During the 2008 election it was reported that Obama and Hillary met with the "Bilderbergs" in a secret meeting. Is there some truth to it?

  10. Hmm....Why do they call the Bilderbergs "creepy"? Is it because it has so many political leaders of the Western hemisphere? Or because there seem to be few, if any, conservatives?

  11. Conservatives=Right-wingers, that is.

  12. I think the Bilderbergs are considered "creepy" because they're rich, elitist, secretive, and wield a lot of power.

  13. hmm....are they secretive or are their activities just ignored by the MSM? Many are rich, yes, but there are degrees of richness: a former press secretary doesn't hold a candle in that respect to someone like an heir to QE2's fortune. and what is "elitist"?? my venerable OED suggests it means elected or chosen. not to mention too many names, but this seems to relate to class more than anything. the most secretive, powerful people i am aware of are not on the list: missing are the popes, for one, or the bunch from wyoming. if they were behind the screen twisting the dials, that would be truly creepy.

    anyway....
