The Official Martha Stewart Blog - The Martha Blog
Well, I intended to share the Martha Blog's remarkable post on the Japanese tree peonies at Rockefeller State Park Preserve in New York State. I'm not sure I got just this one post. It looks to me as if I got the whole shebang: the Official Martha Stewart Blog. I'm afraid to look! And I just did....the tree peony post is maybe three down on the list of recent posts on the right hand side. Whew!
In any case, the photos of the tree peonies in that one post are fabulous! The Japanese people keep blessing us with their flowering trees. I'm thinking of the cherry trees here in DC as well as these gorgeous tree peonies. Enjoy! I'm not advertising here....just blown away by the photos of the tree peonies!

I just looked at the pix and read the story of the gift of tree peonies from Japan.... gorgeous blooms, and what amazing colours! I've never seen these types of peonies before. The peonies at my previous house had to be tied up as soon as they bloomed, as the flower heads were so heavy, and always were covered with enormous black ants. Always shake the flower heads before bringing them into the house to get rid of the livestock.
ReplyDeleteShammy: Thanks for the interesting reminder of the ever-present ants on peonies. I read somewhere years ago that without the ants, which dine on the tight green cover of the bud, the peony flower could not open. I'm sure there is enough sweetness and juice left in the remains of the bud covers to keep the ants around after the flowers pop open. It was always black ants, too, as you say, but I do remember other ants of various sizes and colors at the feast, too.
