Downton Abbey, um......

Not Matthew!!!???  So freakin sad.

Now what?  Mary... and Branson??  She can pick up where her late husband left off on running the estate, and the two little cousins can be like siblings.

Thomas and Mr. Carson???  Don't forget....the more homophobic they are, the more likely they are to be homo!!

  1. Diane tells me that killing off Matthew was actor-driven rather than writers-driven. Apparently he was getting some lucrative offers and wanted off the show to pursue them.

I dunno why they couldn't have taken a page from American soaps and just replaced the character with another actor. This will change the character of the show, won't it?

  2. We'll have to wait for next season to find out, right? Well, good luck to him.
Will people ever be able to watch him in something else and not see Matthew??
    Still, he died happy.

Christ....I think i've gone berserk. I just finished watching "Lars and the Real Girl" on Netflix.
Now I'm talking about Downton Abbey's actors as real people. Yabbadabbadooo!!!

Loved Lars! I watched it, kinda under protest, and was so surprised, and humbled, by how much I enjoyed it. And Downton is just so much fun.

    2. Lars was indeed wonderful!! Ditto Downton!! I read somewhere yesterday that with Matthew gone, Mary will be the big cheese! She'll be Matthew's heir, and oldest child of the count, and she'll be charge of bringing the estate up to modern times! Plus everyone and their dog will be wanting to court her cuz of her position and wealth. I hope she and the chauffeur (sorry, i've forgotten his name) get together and put the skids to that flippant young relative.

I'm going to miss him, too! I thought this season was getting hard to believe. Is Julian getting stale? The D.N.

  5. So, so sad. Saw a funny New Yorker cartoon today about Downton Abbey. I'll post it on facebook if I can get it to work.

I did enjoy the entire show though. Looking forward to next year.

  7. It's becoming Downer Abbey with all those characters snuffing it. Wonder who's next? Now I have to wait another six months to find out. Lady Mary and Tom Branson? nah. Edith and the newspaper editor? perhaps. But rather shocking as he has a crazy wife in the attic.... sort of like Wuthering Heights. Or was it Jane Eyre?

  8. I think Jane Eyre was the one with the ex-wife in the attic. but ha....that seems to be a big theme....doesn't Bergman's "Fanny & Alexander" have a crazy aunt in the attic, too? And doesn't she accidentally set her nightgown on fire and then run through the house to save her nasty nephew?

  9. I suppose the actor playing Matthew wanted to move on to another role elsewhere, so they had to kill him off. Shirley McLaine's appearance touted so loudly for this season surely was short-lived.

  10. true, true. but good news: on Sunday, March 24, at 9 p.m., watch Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman in "The Song of Lunch." Get your lunch packed and ready!! Can't wait. I adore both of these actors.
