One of my favorite bloggers, Emilie Johnson, has this post today. I agree that this is heartening. Bless the women in pink saris!! (Image borrowed from the article.)
India's women are making their voices heard and their power felt. Great article! I've also been following the response of the Indian people to rape and death of the young woman on the bus. Fred Hiatt had a good editorial in the Post this morning about how the Indian people are claiming their individual rights and taking on the culture and politics that perpetuate the kinds of abuse the Pink Gang is also fighting to improve. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/fred-hiatt-india-awakens-to-its-grass-roots-power/2013/01/16/67a291fe-5f8b-11e2-9940-6fc488f3fecd_story.html
Thanks for adding the info on the WashPost piece by Fred Hiatt. The comments on that article are interesting and go on for some length. The commenters variously blame culture, Bollywood, religion, even (as always) the raped girls. Several make the point about the lack of mass demonstrations here against our gun policies and the slaughter of school children. I wonder why that is?
