l.l. 903: USE THE FOOD PUSHER when you want to slice something on your mandoline--other than your thumb!!
l.l. 904: SAVE ALL THE GAUZE PADS AND TAPE from previous injuries!!
l.l. 905: Check out your first aid kit before the stupid hurricane hits and closes all the stores.

Ewwww. What did you do and how did you do it?
ReplyDeletethanks for asking!
Deletetook a nice little slice off the side of my thumb. clean cut, no flap. sucker bled for maybe 8 hours! no bandaids big enough, no surgical tape. I did have a bunch of nonstick pads left over from the time i skinned my knee down to the bone (that was life lesson 810 or so: never run for a bus!). there's always masking tape here, too. and lots of hydrogen peroxide. it's healing nicely, and I can even type without leaving bloody streaks on the keyboard....
ReplyDeletecheers!
p.s. i was slicing an apple quarter nice & thin without using the food pusher. tres stupide!
ReplyDeleteGood grief! That looks painful, scary, and messy! I'm glad you found something to jerry rig a bandage. It's your right hand too, isn't it? Better get some chain mail gloves to use with that mandolin. Hope it heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteIt WAS messy, but the mandoline is so sharp it didn't hurt at all.
ReplyDeleteanyway....life goes on!
Ouch!! Double ouch!! Those things are notoriously dangerous. Hope it heals soon xxoo
ReplyDeletei've never heard about mandolines being notoriously dangerous. i might have known. and now I do.
ReplyDeleteit's healing pretty fast, actually. thanks for your good wishes.

Thumbthing wrong? I thought the blog had been cut off when I got a 404 yestreen.
ReplyDeleteHeal quickly!
the ions were nuts here over the past few days, thanks to the big storm. sorry you couldn't get in to read all my deep, meaningful posts!
ReplyDeletehope all's swell in your part of the world. The rain has stopped, everything's back to open now--govt, schools, metro & buses.
i shall read OPS later today when I get back from visiting my grandson at his college. Cheers, Stuart!
My thumbs are hurting just thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteI took the side off my thumb with a cheese slicer once.... not nice! But I had a nice doctor nearby who patched me up and there was no hurricane brewing. You really do choose the most inopportune time to damage yourself!
Hope your boo-boo is all better now. Want me to kiss it and make it well?
ReplyDeleteShammy: timing is ALL!! you had great good luck having a doctor nearby.
ReplyDeleteDarlene: at a distance, sure!! I'm still worried about bacteria!!
I get the quivers just reading about your thumb. You're old enough to know better, or guess we're never too old is a more appropriate saying. Glad you're healing but somehow I think must still be pretty sore.
ReplyDeleteJoared: Never too old to know better...so right! It doesn't hurt much, but it's going to be sensitive for a long time. I don't even want to think about taking the bandage off.
ReplyDeleteThe AMA would undoubtedly chastize me for doing so; but, I've used the thin little membrane that separates onion layers (while it is fresh and pliable) to cover a would and stop the bleeding.

Owee, owee, owee! I hate anything that happens to my hands - from hangnails to papercuts, but this takes first prize. Condolences.
ReplyDeleteThe D.N.
dn: Thinking about it hurts more than the actual cut did. Just so creepy and unsuspected. And it looks ugly, too. The Grand Canyon of cuts. Sigh. I'm with u on the hangnails and paper cuts (cardboard paper cut is the worst!!). But that liquid bandage stuff is great for those!! Swear by it.
ReplyDeleteTonite's another milestone: bandaid is OFF! I should have gone to med school like John. Always wanted to, but entered the stupid convent instead. Still, though they're dying fast, the nuns've been my fabulous friends for more than 50 years!!
Speaking of fabulous friends, we gotta convene again soon. Ur visit here was too brief.
