"No Decent Woman or Girl Is Ever Seen Wearing Trousers"

Takin' a break from the hourly horrors of the campaign.  Found this by Maria Popova on brainpickings.org

Do the rules of conduct in rural Spain still influence us?? (Especially if we're Republicans?  Oops...)

I LOVE brainpickings.org, btw.  It's a gold mine, and NO ADS!!

  1. It was a fascist state, then. But boy did the lid (and the tops) come off after Franco died! Tourists were already going topless before that, but after that the Spanish women joined in.
And the sexual revolution was in full swing last time I was there, all over Spain!

  2. Those Spanish have the juice, all right!! Thanks for giving us the update! Actually....I don't think they were talking about the Spanish in 1943. It's more like the middle west in the 1950s...and on.

  4. Following your links fell into controversy over evangelical woman's book and inclusion of "vagina" in text, followed by Team Vagina tee-shirts. Never know where this will all take us in our own year of living dangerously amidst crazed politicians. Hoping we are truly far from Spain though there are too many geared up for a modern Inquisition.

  5. Naomi: it doesn't seem that we're going completely backwards exactly....it's just the old one step forward, two steps back. tell me, if you can, why the news this a.m. is that the des moines register has endorsed romney? is it because iowa is monsanto's testing ground?

  6. p.s. I know that's "two steps forward, one step back," but it's dark and rainy here.

  7. Interesting brainpickings site! What's with all these "Jakarta" comments on my blog posts and I'm also seeing on lots of other blogs -- link seems to be a commercial site?
