Last night, Tom Tyler, a friend of my daughter Sally from U of Iowa days, took this wonderful photo of the D.C. fireworks grand finale. He was in Lady Bird Johnson Park, which is on the Virginia side of the Potomac. I love the people sitting along the shore and the boats in the river, all watching the display. I think this is one of my very favorite D.C. photos, fireworks or not. Thanks, Tom, for letting Xtreme English's visitors share your view.

What a great view! We missed all fireworks. I didn't even venture out to see them from the backyard. A total dud of a 4th for us :(
ReplyDeleteWe HEARD the grand finale but we didn't even go up on the roof to view the fireworks though we each had a ticket (only 400 people allowed up there). Then I saw this photo maybe 20 minutes later. We did have a great lunch, though, featuring little crab cakes & hamburgers & various veg & fruit salads. and CAKE with peaches & whipped cream! yum. we talked all afternoon and had a great time.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
Wow...pic is enough to maybe lure me out next year--if temp below 100. Nice breeze today...thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteHappy 5th of July everyone!

Great picture! We walked up to the Mall with the grandkids, who wanted to see the fireworks. Felt like walking through hot mush, the humidity was so oppressive! The fireworks were wonderful, but so was the AC when we got back to the house.
ReplyDeleteha....i just remembered the fireworks on July 4th, 1976, in a small town in Iowa....Someone accidentally dropped the lighter into a whole box of fireworks, which exploded on the barge instead of going up into the air one at a time. The best part was seeing all the Jaycees (in charge of the show) dive into the lake to escape getting hit by the fireballs from the roman candles.
ReplyDeleteHappy July 5th....Still VERY HOT.
Wow! Looks really nice! I wish i could see it! There are always some bad and good stories with fireworks! So we should be really careful with it!
ReplyDeleteAt the same time, DC ran out of ambulances :-(

Stu: glory be. the article says Bal'mer to the north is putting aside more $$ for public services. apparently they're getting the money by closing three firehouses.....
ReplyDeleteyour challenge: define public services in Baltimore.....
Nice photo!
