To take your mind off the hurricane and (cough) earthquake.....

Last night at the play (The Sydney Theater Company's "Uncle Vanya"...FABULOUS), I sat next to a woman who had just moved here from Southern California, and we had a good laugh about DC's recent "earthquake."  (Are you done laughing yet, Sherwood?)

Anyway, I found this today, and it's certainly VERY interesting.  Especially since it confirms what I've always suspected--that food processors' adding high fructose corn syrup to nearly EVERYTHING--has added to our weight problems.

It'll take your mind off the news.  It should be in the news, but of course, when one of the major donors to US political candidates is the producer of high fructose corn syrup, you can imagine how far that will get.

MUSHROOM UPDATE:

P.S.  This is what the fairy ring looked like yesterday morning.  That would be day
three or day four.  A number of them have detached from their stems and flipped
gill-side up.  Wonder what they'll look like after Hurricane Irene dumps her rain on them?
All the books say fairy rings disappear without a trace after 5 days.  Wanna place a bet?

  1. Still chuckling a little, ME, but I'm actually worried about Irene. Batten down.

  2. Thanks, Sherwood...I'll have to go to 7eleven tmw to get any remaining bottled water. Half a case of wine won't last...if the civic water pump goes out. Somebody just told me they're predicting now that Irene will smack into NYC and travel up the Hudson as far as Albany.

They're evacuating Ocean City....who will eat all the french fries??

  3. My sympathy is with those experiencing an earthquake for the first time since I recall my reaction when I went through my first really small one here in So Cal many years ago. Also, in D.C. I wonder if it triggered 9/11 memories. I recall the early morning phone call from my dtr in VA on that day those years ago. She weathered this Quake ok, but my teenage granddtr who was alone and had never been through a quake was truly scared.

  4. Oh, I have to add -- thanks for the up date on the fairy ring.

THIS CORN FRUCTOSE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM in more ways than one! I have a family member who has experienced increasingly serious allergic reactions approaching that of being life threatening -- THINK PROPHYLACTIC SHOCK. Finally learned it was a CORN ALLERGY! You cannot possibly imagine how difficult it is finding foods and dining at restaurants with food items that don't have any sort of corn product. CORN FRUCTOSE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
