Fun to remember that we once were all so very young. Dear little Katie had been bald as an egg, as were all of her siblings until they reached the age of about 18 months, but there is a little wisp of blonde hair growing on the top of her head. So she must be a year and a half, maybe a little more. The Chinese Elm has new leaves, so it must have been about May or even June. It never got reliably warm there until August. And then it started getting cold again. This photo was taken in the side yard where the kids played on their swing set and in the sand box. I was cutting my own hair in those days, too. When you live out of town, and the roads are icy, and there's no way to get to a beauty parlor, you learn how to cut your own! Monday, July 11, 2011

Both Ian and George were bald babies. Sean, as you remember was the lone exception with his head FULL of soft, black curls. I love bald babies! (I have a white jacket just like that now)
ReplyDeleteHow old is cute little Katie now? My little girl is 50. I can't believe how the years passed too quickly.
ReplyDeleteBoth of my children had lots of hair when they were born. They still do, but my son's hairline in receding and I noticed it's becoming thin where a bald spot will show eventually. He is 60 so I guess it's time.
Katie was born in late 1965, so she's about 45 now? Tom, my youngest, is 42, and dear Peggy and Sally, the two oldest, who are just 14 months apart, are soon to be 49 & 48. Something like that, anyway. oy!
ReplyDeletePeggy...your cousin fran had a mass of curls, too, but they were Scandinavian blonde! Two of my brothers had curly hair early on, John and Bob, but when they were old enough, they combed it flat in the manly manner.
ReplyDeleteOr was that Gretchen with the curls?
ReplyDeleteMy babies and my grandbabies so far all had heads covered with golden moss. I think babies with actual hair are really weird!
ReplyDeletePS keep checking my blog, good news is coming soon.
ReplyDeleteME--I love the photo. You (and your offspring) were looking good! Don't knock cutting your own hair. I cut my own hair for the convenience of it. It saves me time, money, and aggravation since I have rarely cut my hair as badly as others have cut it - on the rare occasions when I've let someone else try it.
ReplyDeleteI have two great-grandsons, 13 months and 1 month old. I've not noticed whether they were born with or without hair. I guess I get too busy playing with them to notice!
Cop Car
love the texture of this photo. Posting old family photos is so much fun, and bittersweet
ReplyDeleteCop Car: LOL....Take a look, see what those boys have on their heads!! And thanks for your kind words. I should have said I was "trying to" learn how to cut my hair. *:0)
ReplyDeleteKen Mac: Old photos ARE fun. And I love your photos of Greenwich Village because of all the gorgeous old buildings. Even when they're showing their age, they're beautiful.
