Amateurs! If you're going up an icy hill, don't stop! Look at all those city drivers in their 4 wheel drives and NO SKILLS.
The problem with modern cars is that they will go too fast on ice for what the driver can handle. You can't stop them without sliding all over, and once you've stopped, if you're going up the hill, you can't move at all. The only people getting around out there were on foot.Too bad they don't make VW beetles any more. You could drive on anything--ice, deep snow--in 2nd gear in a beetle. We had lots of practice driving on pure ice, too. When we lived in Bismarck, the road crews never put salt on the roads because of the wheat. They'd use only sand. Sand helps a little, but not much. The bus drivers here are just about the only people who actually know how to drive on ice.
