I got these photos from Erda, our Iowa correspondent. She says they were taken up north of Cedar Rapids. Ufda!

Why I Don't Live in Iowa Anymore, 2008 version
Actually, "anymore" is kind of an Iowa idiom. People say things like, "I'm so tired anymore." (Don't ask me.) Anymore, I love looking at all these beautiful snow scenes. The reason so many of the trucks are in the ditches is because Iowa gets ICE storms. First it drops down ice, and then it snows on top of that. This makes the roads very greasy, as my father-in-law used to say.

One of my friends who lives between Cedar Rapids and Mt Vernon said that his children have had so many snow days that they're going to have to make the days up at the end of the term or during the spring break.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos!
Me, too! I also love thinking about breathing in that fresh, cold, clean air.
ReplyDeleteOur skool had a RAIN day this year! I've seen it all now....
xo, ma
There are many reasons why I don't live in Iowa anymore, but the weather is #1. The kids can't understand why I still bundle up and put boots in my car even if I'm just going to the Catskills (an hour north). The idea of having to get out of the car after a mishap and walking through snow just never occurs to them.

Thats horrible. And I thought that WE had a lot of snow this year. No wonder I didn't emigrate to Iowa, I knew there was a reason. But lots of cars and trucks in ditches around here too, specially 2 days ago, ice and snow on top.
ReplyDeleteAnd the last 2 days have been -20C, that's pretty darn chilly.
PS new pics of baby Callum on my blog!
Yep, I can see why! I would have been out of there on the first bus at day light :)
ReplyDeleteIt's CAL that rhymes with PAL, not CALL that rhymes with HALL, and then LUM that rhymes with BU... er... I mean HUM.
